Women, Gender, and Sexual Equity

The Women, Gender, and Sexual Equity (WGSE) department works to foster an equitable, inclusive, and safe educational environment for all members of the UCSB community. We strive to empower people of all genders to reach their full potential and to challenge constraining gender norms. The WGSE provides advocacy, education, resources, and support for students, staff, faculty, and community members. We value and respect all genders, bodies, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, and racial and ethnic identities.

The WGSE provides a wide array of services to meet the needs of the UCSB community. We offer fun, interactive, and educational programs such as invited speaker presentations, films, workshops, and discussion groups. Our CARE: Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education program offers individualized crisis counseling and advocacy for anyone affected by sexual assault, stalking, or domestic violence; educational programs for student groups on gender roles, sexual harassment and sexual assault; and other resources for reducing violence in our community. As part of the WGSE, the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity provides services and advocacy for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender students. The physical spaces of the WGSE includes meeting and study spaces; research libraries open to all students, faculty, and staff; children’s space and study space for non-traditional students; and an art gallery that features gender and social justice themes. A departmental quarterly calendar of activities is available.

The three spaces of the WGSE include: 1) the Women’s Center located on the first floor of the Student Resource Building (SRB); 2) the Non-Traditional Student Resource Center located on the first floor of the SRB; and 3) the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity located on the third floor of the SRB.
