Overview

Freshman Seminar courses are designed to provide both freshmen and sophomores an opportunity to study with distinguished faculty in low-enrollment classes. Enrollment in freshman seminars does not exceed 25 students.

These one-unit courses, graded P/NP only, touch upon controversial academic issues or review interesting research in a narrow field. Recent seminars have included: “Males and the City: Queer Masculinities, Queer Rituals,” “The Self, Memory and Time,” and “Earth in Crisis?”.

Freshman Seminars are offered as Interdisciplinary 94AA-ZZ and meet for a total of ten hours during the quarter. Students may earn 3 units in total from freshman seminars, which are not repeatable. Visit www.duels.ucsb.edu/academics/seminars#about to view complete details and current course offerings. These courses apply as elective credit only toward the degree.
