Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises

Students at UC Santa Barbara have several choices of housing options, including residence halls and apartments. Detailed housing information is available on the housing web site at www.housing.ucsb.edu.

UCSB operates eight residence halls and nine apartment complexes, all located on or near the main campus, and a variety of meal plans are offered at our four Dining Commons. Many single students find university living an excellent opportunity to become involved with the campus community and meet other students.

UCSB guarantees undergraduate students housing for all four years of their college experience, either in the residence halls or the apartments through the 2&2 program (http://www.housing.ucsb.edu/residence-halls/2-2-program). Students who live in the residence halls for two years are guaranteed housing in the UCSB apartments for their third and fourth years as long as they meet all deadlines. Incoming UCSB freshmen admitted for fall quarter may sign a residence hall contract between May 1-8 as long as their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) is submitted by the campus deadline. New single graduate students are guaranteed apartment housing, provided deadlines are met. New transfer students are guaranteed university-owned housing (either apartments or residence halls) as well. Students with families are eligible for Family Student Housing. Families with children have priority. Please see www.housing.ucsb.edu for more information regarding contract processes and deadlines.

Residential & Community Living promotes a self-regulated environment for the residents of University residence halls and apartments. Their services foster the residents’ ability to live together respectfully and responsibly in a learning community and promote the academic success of all residents. The residential education program provides a quality living experience as well as opportunities to interact with other residents, faculty and staff. The department oversees live-in staff, university and community housing services, community councils, and student leadership and conduct.

University & Community Housing Services serves as a one-stop resource for University-owned housing processes including applications, contracts, waiting lists, room assignments, roommate matching, billing, housing payment plans, as well as resources for community housing such as rental listings, conflict resolution, move-in/move-out videotaping services, and rental advice. The University & Community Housing Services Office is located on the 3rd floor of the University Center, upstairs across from the UCSB Campus Store. The office is open M-F, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from 12-1 p.m. for lunch), and can be reached at 805-893-4371.

Conference & Hospitality Services, located in the Santa Rosa Administrative Center, provides information about and promotes the use of Housing, Dining & Auxiliary Enterprises conference facilities in the summer for organizations with educational objectives. The unit supports and enhances the educational, research and public service mission of the University by providing services and facilities in the planning, coordination, and execution of summer conference programs and year-round activities in the Loma Pelona Center.
