In addition to departmental requirements, candidates for graduate degrees must fulfill the university degree requirements found in the “Graduate Education” section of the UCSB online catalog.

Admission

The department requires a bachelor’s degree in Spanish or its equivalent.  Candidates who are deficient in preparation will be required to take the necessary undergraduate courses to make up for deficiencies before beginning work in the M.A. program.

Admission

Applicants will normally have followed a course of study leading to the M.A. degree in Spanish or the M.A. in Portuguese.

Optional Interdisciplinary Emphasis

Students pursuing a doctoral degree in Hispanic Languages and Literatures may petition to add the following Optional Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Emphases: Applied Linguistics, European Medieval Studies, Feminist Studies, Translation Studies.
