Housing and Residential Services

Students at UC Santa Barbara have several choices of housing style and location, including residence halls, apartments, sorority and fraternity houses, and a housing cooperative, all of which are located on or within a mile of the campus. Detailed housing information is available on the housing Web site at www.housing.ucsb.edu.

UCSB operates eight residence halls located on campus, and space is available to accommodate all incoming freshmen. Various meal plans for “all you can eat” meals are offered in dining facilities close to each residence hall. Many single students find residence hall living an excellent opportunity to become involved with the campus community and meet other students. The contract process for the residence halls is handled at Housing & Residential Services on Channel Islands Road. Telephone: (805) 893-5513. Email: contracts@housing.ucsb.edu.

UCSB guarantees incoming freshmen two years in the residence halls. Incoming UCSB freshmen admitted for fall quarter may download residence hall information by mid-May as long as their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) is submitted by the campus deadline.

The Community Housing Office (CHO) serves as a one-stop resource for rental housing information for students living in the community. Students interested in finding off-campus, non-university-owned housing can log onto www.housing.ucsb.edu and click on “Rental Listings” to see what’s available. For information about CHO’s other services, such as their 24/7 Rental Advice and Information site, Rental Success Guide, mediation, or videotaping service, click on “Where Can I Live?” and select “Community Housing Office.” The CHO is located on the 3rd floor (Room 3151) of the University Center, upstairs across from the UCSB Bookstore. The office is open M-F, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from 12-1 p.m. for lunch), and can be reached at 805-893-4371.

The Office of Apartment Living, located in the Santa Ynez Apartment complex on El Colegio Road, provides information on university-owned, undergraduate, graduate and family student apartments. New single graduate students are guaranteed apartment housing, provided deadlines are met. New transfer students are guaranteed an offer of university-owned housing (either apartments or residence halls) through a lottery process. Upper-division students (juniors and seniors) will continue to be housed through a lottery process (priority for the University-owned Apartments goes to students who complete two years in the Residence Halls.) Students with families are eligible for Family Student Housing. Families with children have priority. Apartment Assignment Services can be reached at (805) 893-4021. Please see www.housing.ucsb.edu for application processes and deadlines.

Campus Conference Services, located in the Santa Rosa Administrative Center, provides information about and promotes the use of Housing & Residential Services’ conference facilities in the summer for organizations with educational objectives. The unit supports and enhances the educational, research and public service mission of the University by providing services and facilities in the planning, coordination, and execution of summer conference programs and year-round activities in the Loma Pelona Center. Telephone: (805) 893-3072.

The Office of Residential Life promotes a self-regulated environment for the residents of University-owned residence halls. Their services foster the residents’ ability to live together respectfully and responsibly in a learning community and promote the academic success of all residents.  The residential education program provides a quality living experience as well as opportunities to interact with other residents, faculty and staff.  The components of this office include Residential Life administration, Residential Life live-in staff, Assignment Services, Judicial Affairs (including the Residence Hall Review Board), and Student Leadership (including the Residence Halls Association).  The central office is located in a beige trailer, TB 335, which is west of Santa Rosa Residence Hall (805-893-3281). There are regional offices in the De Anza Center at Manzanita Village (805-893-6161) and at Santa Catalina (805-893-7473).
