The UCSB Education Abroad Program sends over 1,000 students abroad each year through the UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP). Offering program options in more than 40 countries throughout the world, there are programs for UCSB students of all majors and interests. Participating students remain registered at UCSB while studying abroad and receive full academic credit for their work, allowing them to integrate study abroad into their academic plans and graduate on time. While on UCEAP, students continue to earn UC units, and completed courses and grades appear onto their official UCSB transcript. With planning, courses may be used to fulfill major, minor and general education requirements allowing students to stay on track for graduation. Participants are strongly encouraged to take advantage of research, volunteer and internship opportunities that will help them further their career goals. Although students have a variety of program lengths to select from, it is most impactful when they study abroad for the entire academic year.
The cost of studying on UCEAP varies by program and many options are less than or comparable to the cost of staying at UCSB. Students continue to receive financial aid (grants, scholarships and loans). Additionally, many scholarships are available from UCEAP, UCSB EAP and national funding sources. Students should contact the UCSB EAP Office and Financial Aid Office for additional information.
Please note that UCEAP opportunities are also open to qualified graduate students who have completed at least one full year of graduate work and have the support of their academic department and graduate dean. A detailed statement of the projected program of study is required. Interested graduate students are strongly encouraged to meet with a UCEAP advisor early in the process.
In addition to sending students abroad, UCSB receives over 300 international exchange students each year.
The UCSB EAP Office is located in South Hall 2431. Advisors there can provide full details about the academic programs abroad, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.
