Campus Advocacy Resources & Education (CARE)

If you or someone you care about has experienced abuse, harassment, trauma, or violence while at UC Santa Barbara or even before coming to college, CARE is here to help. Every student should be aware of their legal rights and options, the resources that exist to promote healing, and the role that the entire community plays in creating safety for all.

CARE provides professionally designed services for the prevention and intervention of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and harassment. All services are free, confidential, and available to students, staff, and faculty of all identities. We are committed to survivor empowerment and the prevention of violence.

First, to survivors, the staff at CARE are committed to providing you with unconditional support and individualized services. We understand the challenges and barriers you may experience in asking for help, and that the circumstances you are faced with may feel complicated and overwhelming. We are here to help you navigate your options, provide support, connect you with resources, and serve as trusted point of contact along your path forward. CARE’s confidentiality offers students legal protections so that CARE can remain a truly safe place to seek assistance. We offer comprehensive supportive measures, some of which include:

  • Academic assistance
  • Emotional support, crisis response, and healing resources
  • Financial remedies Housing assistance and safety planning
  • Medical and court accompaniment
  • Reporting information and assistance

We also want to remind all students that sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, and harassment are never the survivor’s fault or responsibility. When we as a community fail to believe and support survivors, we silence their voices and act as barriers to receiving assistance.

Stopping harm before it happens is the responsibility of the entire campus community. We must all be active in preventing violence and keeping our campus safe. We can do this by:

  • Engaging in healthy relationships with one another that include respect and compassion.
  • Practicing communication, talking about consent, and defining our own personal boundaries.
  • Valuing and upholding others’ personal boundaries and privacy.
  • Developing our own strategies to intervene in risky situations.
  • Letting someone know that you care, that resources like CARE are available, and that you can help them reach out if they want your support.

How Do I Make an Appointment? By visiting CARE’s website or calling its 24-hour advocacy line at 805-893-4613. CARE does not practice appointment limits and all services are FREE of charge!

Where Can I Find CARE? To best serve students, CARE has two locations. On campus, CARE is located on the second floor of the Student Resource Building (SRB). In Isla Vista, CARE is located in the Gaucho Support Center at 970 Embarcadero Del Mar on the 2nd Floor.
