Voter Registration

The 1998 re-authorization of the federal Higher Education Act includes a requirement that higher education institutions make a “good faith effort” to make mail voter registration forms available to all enrolled students. This federal legislation supports the campus’s long-standing goals of engendering leadership and citizenship among the student body.
In order to register to vote a student must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of California, and at least 18 years of age at the time of the next election.

UCSB provides students with several options for registering to vote.
The Student Affairs Division in conjunction with Gauchos Vote, a coalition of the UCSB Voter Registration Volunteer Coalition, Associated Students, and CALPIRG, sponsors a non-partisan voter registration drive once a year, in fall or winter and spring, depending on the state and local elections schedule.

Online:

Registering online is a very fast and easy process. By registering through the link below, you can increase the number of registered students at UCSB. California Student Vote also provides a list of resources and tools necessary to get you to feel comfortable while voting. Student Vote could be used as an alternative in case you are not living in California by the time you vote.

By phone:

Call 1-800-345-VOTE.

Students must re-register to vote if they have moved, changed names, or wish to change party affiliation.
