Student Life

Student Life houses the Offices of the Assistant Vice Chancellor & Dean of Students, Student Conduct, Student Life Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL), and Student Wellness to provide a centralized location for students to access multiple services. The suite provides a staff trained to support student success and address a wide variety of needs and concerns that students articulate while enrolled at UCSB. Telephone: (805) 893-4550 or (805) 893-4569. Visit the suite online at studentlife.sa.ucsb.edu.

The Dean of Students is concerned with the holistic development and the complete student experience, in and out of the classroom. The office is responsive to both individual and community-wide student needs and often works to address or resolve student concerns that arise out unique circumstances (whether on or off campus) that impact a student's academic progress. In addition to providing leadership to the Student Life departments, the Dean of Students Office spearheads and supports a number of initiatives, and provides special services to assist students facing challenges.

The Office of Student Conduct adjudicates academic and behavioral violations of the Student Conduct Code. We demand the highest academic and behavioral integrity and ensure community by repairing violations of trust through restorative practices and administrative resolution. Student Engagement & Leadership (SEAL, formerly OSL) administers advising for registered campus organizations , recognized fraternities and sororities, and leadership development programs. The staff assists students and organizations with leadership training, development, consultations, program planning, fund raising, trustee accounts, publicity and promotion, and special projects. SEAL provides a directory of currently registered organizations on its web site that lists the missions and contact information for more than 500 campus organizations. In addition to collaborating with the Dean of Students to offer ED 173: Introduction to Leadership Development course, SEAL manages UCSB's online engagement community, Shoreline, which serves as our campus's virtual community. Registered campus organizations, campus departments, and our campus community can engage online in one centralized location. Shoreline had a community feed function, approved campus events being hosted by campus entities, and is the home to the student co-curricular record. Visit SEAL online at www.sa.ucsb.edu/osl/ or on Shoreline at shoreline.ucsb.edu/.

Student Wellness Services includes both Health & Wellness Programs and the Student Mental Health Coordination unit. Health & Wellness staff works within a comprehensive research-based framework to foster healthy campus learning environments that nurture optimal student development, resilience and well-being. The coordinator of student mental health services is a readily accessible single point of contact for faculty, staff and students who are concerned about a distressed student and do not know which office to contact. The coordinator will consult about a student, provide referrals to campus departments, develop action plans, and follow up with students, staff and faculty as appropriate.
