Graduate Program
Admission
Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required of all applicants to the graduate program. Applicants whose native language is not English must pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) prior to admission to UCSB. Requests for exceptions to this requirement will be considered for those students who have completed an undergraduate or graduate education at an institution whose primary language of instruction is English. It is expected that most applicants for the Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering will have obtained undergraduate degrees in chemical engineering. However, students with degrees in other branches of engineering or in science may be accepted with the provision that they take such undergraduate courses as prescribed by the department as prerequisites for graduate work.
