In keeping with the university’s commitment to promote the scholarly work of undergraduates, the College of Letters and Science at UC Santa Barbara offers a variety of programs to support research and creative activities under faculty supervision. Undergraduates from all majors may apply for awards that are supported by various funding sources. The
application for this grant is open in October. Students involved in research and creative projects have an opportunity to present their work at the annual Colloquium on Undergraduate Research in the spring.
The Faculty Research Assistance Program (FRAP) allows undergraduates to gain valuable research experience, work with leading UCSB researchers, and simultaneously earn academic credit through special research assistance courses, 99/99RA or 199/199RA. Transfer Student Research Award
The Transfer Student Research Award (TSRA) was developed to provide specific support for undergraduate transfer students interested in developing individual research or creative projects under faculty mentorship. Undergraduate transfer students from all majors can apply -- provided they demonstrate a keen interest in research and are representative of at least junior class standing. The application for this grant is open during winter quarter. Students involved in research and creative projects have an opportunity to present their work at the annual Colloquium on Undergraduate Research in the spring.
