This grounding is essential for K-12 teachers in History and English/Literature. Examines the impact of Western imperialism and colonialism on Asian people and nations, and then the subsequent migrations of Asians to the United States. Writing-intensive course focuses on the craft of screenwriting in the short film, television, and feature film format. Asian American film, video, and new media produced within Asian American framework life, culture, and politics or "socio-aesthetics." Moving image production, criticism, and theory is reviewed in order to formulate an analysis of production, authorship, and spectatorship of various forms. Readings of Peter Feng, E. Franklin Wong, Eve Oishi, and others are a must. Students will write two page response papers every week, attend lectures and screenings as part of Asian American 127, meet with the professor weekly, and read extensively in the field of Asia American Film Studies.
